About the Trek
The Hampta Pass trek crosses from the lush Kullu Valley into the stark, lunar Spiti Valley — one of the most dramatic landscape contrasts in the entire Himalayas. At 14,100 ft, Hampta Pass is famous for its almost theatrical shift in terrain: verdant and green on one side, barren and grey on the other.
The trail passes through alpine meadows at Chika and Balu Ka Ghera, the Hampta Pass itself with views of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges, and descends into the striking Chhatru plain on the Spiti side. Starting from Jobra near Manali, this 5-day moderate trek is often combined with Rohtang Pass for an epic Himachali circuit.

The Itinerary
Drive Manali to Jobra; Trek Jobra to Chika Meadow
Drive from Manali (or Kullu) up to Jobra — the trailhead. Begin the trek through pine forests along the Rani River, climbing gradually to the lush Chika meadow. Camp at Chika amid sweeping mountain views.

Trek Chika to Balu Ka Ghera
Continue up the Hampta Valley through increasingly dramatic glacial terrain. Cross multiple streams and navigate boulder fields as the valley narrows. Camp at Balu Ka Ghera — a wide, exposed camping ground beside a glacial stream.

Cross Hampta Pass; Descend to Chatru (Spiti Side)
The crossing day. Wake early for the final push to Hampta Pass (14,100 ft). At the top, the contrast between the verdant Kullu Valley behind you and the stark, lunar Lahaul-Spiti landscape ahead is extraordinary. Descend steeply to Chatru. Overnight camp in Chatru.

Explore Chatru; Drive to Kullu or Manali
Morning to explore the alien Chatru plain at the edge of the Spiti Valley. Board jeeps/vehicles for the drive back to Kullu via Rohtang Pass or the Atal Tunnel, reaching Manali by evening.

Return Drive to Manali / Chandigarh / Delhi
Final drive from Manali back to Chandigarh or Delhi. Trip concludes.
