About the Trek
Dayara Bugyal is a 4-day trek in Uttarakhand's Garhwal Himalayas, renowned for its vast alpine meadow lying at about 12,000 ft. One of the largest high-altitude meadows in India, the bugyal offers emerald-green slopes in summer and pristine snowy vistas in winter.
Trekkers enjoy 360° views of Himalayan ranges including Bandarpunch and Black Peak from the rolling grasslands. Starting from the village of Raithal, this easy, family-friendly trek is accessible year-round and offers a completely different experience in each season.

The Itinerary
Drive Dehradun to Raithal; Trek Raithal to Bari
Early morning drive from Dehradun to Raithal village (approx. 7 hours). Trek through oak and rhododendron forests to the hamlet of Bari. Set up camp amid the dense forest. First taste of Himalayan air and scenery.
Trek Bari to Dayara Bugyal
A longer day with steady altitude gain through treeline into the open subalpine zone. Arrive at the vast Dayara Bugyal meadow — one of the largest alpine grasslands in the Garhwal Himalayas. Camp on the rolling meadow with panoramic views of Bandarpunch, Black Peak, and Srikanth.
Leisure Day on Dayara Bugyal; Trek to Metwari
Morning at leisure to explore the expansive meadow, photograph the landscape, and soak in the silence. After lunch, begin a gradual descent to Metwari. Camp at Metwari for the overnight.
Trek Metwari to Netwar; Drive Netwar to Dehradun
Short morning trek to Netwar village on the Tons River. Load into vehicles and drive back to Dehradun, arriving by evening. Trip concludes here.

Am I Ready for This?

Moderate. Suitable for fit beginners with some hiking background. The pass crossing requires effort — plan and train ahead of time.
Age Range
Generally 12 to 55 years. Children must be with a guardian. Confirm any exceptions directly with the team before booking.
Fitness Prep
Run or cycle 4 to 5 km, three times a week for 4 weeks. Practice 15+ km day hikes with a loaded backpack on varied terrain.
Glacial River Crossings
Two stream crossings (Rani Nala, Hampta Nala) can be tricky in early summer. Use trekking poles and always follow your guide — the current is deceptively strong.
Fast-Changing Weather
Conditions near the pass change rapidly. Windproof layers are non-negotiable even on warm valley days. Always be layered up before the final push to the summit.
No Mobile Network
Expect no signal on trail. Download offline maps before leaving Manali, carry emergency contact numbers written down, and inform someone about your route.
No Permits Required
No special trekking permit needed. Carry government-issued photo ID (Aadhar or passport) — mandatory at Manali to Lahaul check-points on the highway.
